There’s nothing better than when your beach vacation finally arrives. You’ve been waiting for sunny days laying on the beach. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the outcome of your beach vacation and it ends up raining. Don’t let a little rain ruin your trip to Sandbridge, embrace it! Sandbridge is located within Virginia Beach so there are plenty of things to do within a short drive. Here are our top 5 things to do when it rains in Sandbridge!
Go to the Aquarium
Whether kids are involved or just adults The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center will sure to be an enjoyable and educational trip for everyone involved. The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is one of the best aquariums in the country. The Virginia Aquarium offers over 800,000 gallons of fresh and salt water displays. Enjoy one of their incredible educational documentaries on the largest screen in Virginia. This six-story Giant Screen Theater brings an exciting, updated viewing experience for guests, including recently renovated seats, floors, and sound system. From hundreds of hands-on exhibits to their National Geographic 3D Theater this trip will be a blast for everyone! As an added bonus, if the rain end up stopping while you are at the aquarium, you can enjoy adventure and fun at the Adventure Park. The aerial forest park features climbing and zip-lining through majestic trees near the marsh pavilion along with 15 trails that weave between platforms over 6 acres!
It goes without saying that bowling is a fun activity for everyone involved. Virginia Beach is home to many bowling alleys to choose from. Bring the whole family and enjoy a day of bowling and arcade games. Start a friendly competition amongst the family and watch as everyone forgets all about the rain and is eager to be the bowling champion of the day. The closest bowling alleys to Sandbridge Beach are Seaside Lanes, AMF Lynnhaven Lanes, and Freedom Lanes.
Shopping is always a good rainy-day option in Virginia Beach. The Lynnhaven Mall is only a 30 minute drive from Sandbridge and is home to over 130 stores! In this shopping trip alone, there is sure to be something for everyone! If you have kids that are a little “shopped out” or just an adult looking for a fun break from shopping head over to Dave & Buster’s to grab a drink and play some arcade games. The mall isn’t the only shopping experience you can have in Virginia Beach. Head over to Town Center for an urban appeal, look around for local boutiques, nearly every shopping center you come across will have some sort of shopping experience for you.
Go to the Trampoline Park
If you’ve never been to a trampoline park, I highly recommend it for kids and adults. A trampoline park is a place filled with trampolines along the walls and the floors. Let go of gravity and grab some air on wall-to-wall trampoline courts. Jumping off walls isn’t the only fun you can find here, they offer dodge ball, foam pits to jump into, and even basketball goals to dunk on! This is fun and great exercise for everyone. Now maybe jumping around for hours isn’t your think, but you want to let the kids get some energy out… they offer spaces for parents and non-jumpers to enjoy themselves while keeping an eye on the action. There are two trampoline parks in Virginia Beach: Jump Virginia Beach and Sky Zone.
Staying at Your Vacation Rental
It’s nice to get out of the house when it’s raining on vacation, but so is staying at your vacation rental and spending some quality time with the family. Often on vacation family members and friends are so eager to get to the destination and fulfill all of their plans that they overlook the most important part… quality time with the family. If it rains on vacation this is the perfect opportunity to really spend some time together. There are so many activities to do when you stay in at your Virginia Beach vacation rental. Break out the board games, grab some snacks, and let the fun begin! There’s nothing like a fun family competition with a few board games or some cards. This will be sure to bring smiles, laughter, and happiness to all ages. After all the fun is had with the games and you’ve crowned the family champion of the night you can all gather together in the living room and relax by watching a movie or your favorite Netflix series.
At the end of the day life is what you make it and there is no point in being upset over something you can’t control, like weather. Next time it rains on your Sandbridge Beach vacation embrace it and explore the area!
