See it from the water

There is something special about seeing Sandbridge from the water. There are many watersports and tours to choose from such as Kayak tours, Paddleboarding, Dolphin tours, and the Wildlife Tram tour.

Kayak Tours

With over 120 navigable miles of waterways, Virginia Beach is the perfect place to go kayaking. You can choose from ocean kayaking or kayaking through Back Bay National Wildlife and First Landing. On average the kayak tours last for about two and a half hours.

Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is a great way to spend a couple of hours exploring the wildlife along the water, whether through the Back Bay or the ocean. Sandbridge Beach has gentle waves and a sandy bottom, making it the ideal place for paddleboarding. You also have access to all the canals and Back Bay National Wildlife when staying in Sandbridge. Since paddleboards move slowly and do not make a lot of noise you won't startle the dolphins, birds and other wildlife life and may be able to see a few.

Hike or Bike Off the Beaten Path

Sandbridge offers two parks, False Cape State Park and Back Bay Wildlife Refuge, that are the perfect places to go hiking or biking. False Cape State Park offers 6 miles of beaches and 9 miles of hiking/biking. It is only accessible by biking/hiking. You can take the tram and explore the area for two hours or there are campsites available and you can stay overnight.  While you are there be sure to check out Wash Woods which is an old church and cemetery that is worth exploring.

Back BayNational Wildlife Refuge offers 8 miles of trails to hike or bike. You will gothrough a diverse ecology such as beaches, sand dunes, marshes, and woodlandsso you can kiss boredom goodbye.

Amusement Parks

Need a break from the beach? Close by you have Motor World and Ocean Breeze Water Park and then Busch Gardens and Water Country are a little over an hour away.

Motor World and Ocean Breeze are located beside each other, so you have the best of both. You can spend the morning riding go-carts and playing mini-golf and then cool off in the afternoon splashing away in the wave pool and tubing down the waterslides.

If you don'tmind driving a bit further and are looking for something more exciting, thenyou have Bush Gardens and Water Country. Start the day off relaxing on the lazyriver, sliding down slides and catching waves at the wave pool then head overto Busch Gardens for adrenaline racing roller coasters.

Go Offshore Fishing

Offshore fishing is an exciting way to spend a day on the open ocean. Most trips last from 12 to 17 hours and you need to make a reservation in advance. You are likely to see dolphins and soaring seabirds throughout your trips. You will head out around 75 miles offshore. Captains know where to find schools of wahoo, yellowfin tuna, and mahi-mahi and hopefully you will be reeling in a 200-pound tuna! Most charter operators will clean your catch for you, so all you have to do is fire up the grill when you get back to your vacation rental.

The Adventure Park and Virginia Aquarium

Explore an aerial treetop park at The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium. The Adventure Park is the largest forest climbing park in the nation with 15 trails, 21 zip lines, 6 difficulty levels, and 200 challenge bridges.  You will climb, walk, zip, and swing through 165 crossings in the 16-acre park. The best way to experience the park is to spend a couple of hours in the aquarium watching the otters play and the sharks swimming around, then navigate the specially lighted trails as the sunsets.
